It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Mathew (“Marty”) Katsenhaien Deer. Marty was born on April 29, 1940 and passed away on June 24, 2023 at his home in Kahnawà:ke, at the age of eighty three years old.

He lived a fulfilling life with his wife, Linda Deer, by his side for 50 glorious years. He began his career as an Ironworker and ended as a water and sewer supervisor at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, where he retired in 2005 after 30 years of service. In retirement he spent many years camping and leaves very fond memories with his camping buddies Kaden, Kylen and Liana. Marty was a beloved Husband, Brother, Friend and Uncle to so many who cared for him deeply. He was kind, caring, hard-working, family oriented and had the greatest sense of humour that could brighten up any room.

Marty leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Deer; his sister-in-laws Kateri and Nancy; his brother in-law Conrad. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from both his immediate and extended families. Marty will be joining his immediate family in the Sky World; his parents Matthew Deer and Louisa Leborgne, and all of his siblings, Stanley, Hilda, Norma, Elmer-Sonny, Louis, Paul, Dennis and Evelyn.

Marty will be resting at his home in Kahnawa:ke, around the corner of the old Evelyn’s Convenience store. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 4 pm until Thursday, June 29, 2023. The funeral service will be held on June 29th at 2:00 pm at the St. Francis Xavier Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kahnawa:ke Fire Brigade and Ambulance Service.
