Obituary
Jean-Claude
SAUMURE
It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Jean-Claude Saumure, who died surrounded by his family at the CHSLD Sainte-Catherine on September 30.
He was 77 years old and lived a life enriched by many passions: genealogy, photography, birdwatching, geography, history, reading, and the Montreal Canadiens.
He dedicated much of his life to secondary education, working as a geography teacher at Jacques-Leber School in Saint-Constant and an ecology teacher at Fernand-Seguin School in Candiac. A dedicated and caring teacher, he was deeply committed to his students’ success. He was also a professional photographer for many years, diligently capturing the lives of his loved ones to enrich the family archives. He possessed an artistic soul and a deep sensitivity to the world around him. Jean-Claude was also an avid reader for whom music held great importance.
The bonds he maintained throughout his life with friends and family were sacred to him. He cherished these deep friendships, nurturing them through long phone calls, get-togethers, emails, and birthday cards. Undoubtedly, the greatest joy of his life was marrying his beloved Ghislaine and loving her until his very last breath. He was also immensely proud of his two children, whom he loved deeply, as well as his grandchildren, who were treasures in his eyes.
He is survived by his spouse Ghislaine, his children Mélanie and Marc-Olivier, his son-in-law Michael, his granddaughter Lou, and his grandson Jules-Henry. He is also survived by his sisters Nicole (Gaston) and Lorraine (the late Claude), his brother Paul (Diane), his brother-in-law Alain (Suzie), numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and friends.
Jean-Claude has been entrusted to the care of Poissant & Fils Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date within the coming year; we need time to heal and to soothe the pain of his passing.
We would like to thank the staff at CHSLD Ste-Catherine for providing quality care to Jean-Claude and for treating him with dignity.
A huge thank you to the friends and family members of the Saumure, Perras, Ménard, and Bérubé families who supported us through these difficult times.
A special thank you to his older sister Nicole, who watched over him by visiting him constantly at the hospital and the CHSLD.
And a heartfelt thank you to our mother, Ghislaine, who, with her unwavering love, held our father Jean-Claude’s hand constantly until the very end.
