Obituary

Surrounded by his loving family, Joseph “Joey” D. Montour passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 69 at Kateri Memorial Hospital.

Joey was predeceased by his beloved mother, Betty Delisle; his father, Robert Montour; his younger brother, Barry “Monsieur” Montour; and his nephew, Christopher Montour.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 46 years, Joanie (née Rice); his cherished daughters, Erin (Kevin) and Kawennaroroks; and his treasured grandchildren, Carter and Austin. He will also be dearly missed by Karennenhawi and Sakarahkoten Goodleaf, who have always been a part of the family, as well as his favorite fur baby, Rue-Ellen.

Joey is survived by his siblings Janice, Robbie, and Neil; sisters-in-law Lanny, Cathy, and Cynthia (Donald); brothers-in-law David and Michael (Suzette). He held a special role as a mentor and role model to his nephew Adam, with whom he shared a strong and lasting bond. His memory will also live on through many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A proud and dedicated ironworker, Joey was a loyal member of Local 711 for 48 years, travelling across the United States to help build cities, while also working extensively in Montreal and the surrounding areas. After retiring from ironwork, he continued to serve his community through a decade of service with OTT Security.

In 1990, Joey stood strong on the line to protect his community, a reflection of his courage and deep-rooted values. He cherished his grandchildren immensely and was a truly remarkable Baba who was always there for them and never missed a precious moment. His presence in their lives was a constant source of love, wisdom, and joy.

Joey lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep love for his family and community. He found great joy tending to his garden, caring for his home, and spending time outdoors. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Kahnawake Peacekeepers, the Kahnawake Fire Brigade, and the staff at Kateri Memorial Hospital for their profound care, compassion, and support.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 11 a.m., and they will receive tributes on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 12 p.m.in the parlor.
