It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Kanenhrákta’ Delisle, who passed away peacefully at the age of 91. As per his wishes, he passed away at home surrounded by his family.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Selma Norton, his parents Joseph Delisle and Elizabeth Diabo, his sisters Muriel and Tessie and his brother Dan.

He is survived by his daughters: Dee, Tsita (Loran), and Erica.

His grandchildren: Tkahentehtha (Charlie), Shako’nikonhriiostha, Tionaho:se (Walter), Shaoiehra (Tony), Iohontsarahkwasheton (Lakwaho), Kanentahawi (Ryan), Iahkohkatste (Theo), Kelly, Peach, Eric, Skahentati, Crissann.

His great-grandchildren: Shakaonhaherha (Sara), Onkwatasatarhase, Ronikonhrakatste, Charlise Tiohahen:te, Olivia, Taiawenhatie (Mark), Iesennakwennienstha, Rawenhtsawakon, Rakehnhoktha, Iewennatatie, Rarontisere, Roriwakeronnion, Kyden, Atat’shataha, Wahanati:sha’, Tharoniahnonha, Atewennatékha, Awenniserahthe, Wentiioh, Kahétiioh.

His great-great grandchildren: Tehanotawaks, Tehaw^nayesta, Yeháhas, Tsyuhyahawe, Tehanatakwa, Raniehtaroron.

He is also survived by his dear brothers Morley and Glen, his auntie Ruth Diabo, his auntie-in-law Louise Hemlock, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He will be missed by his dear and long-time friends Andy, Tricia, Lynne, Frankie, Freddy and Sny.

We are forever grateful to, and proud of Iohontsarahkwasheton, Roriwakeronnion and  Shako’nikonhriiostha who guided Baba Frank back to us so that we got to spend one final summer with him.

Frank was a humble man who loved his family and was loved by all who knew him, he was generous, hardworking, and respectful, he was always happy and full of kind and witty words to share. He loved his outdoor work and had a career in tree cutting, ironworking (Local 711), entrepreneurship and security. When Frank wasn’t working in his yard, he was busy helping his family and doing his famous family taxi runs.

Under the Bear clan, he followed our traditional ways and was an active member of the Rotisken’rakéhte (Mohawk Warrior Society), “Fearless” Frank was always prepared to stand up for and  protect the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

Anyone who knew Frank, knew he LOVED golf. He was an avid golfer, who most notably holds the record for the most holes in one in Kahnawake, achieving his 11^th one at the age of 88. When congratulated, he humbly replied, “11 holes in one isn’t that much considering I’ve been playing golf for 78 years.”

Our family would like to thank the Kahnawake Ambulance Service, the staff of the Anna Laberge Hospital, the Turtle Bay Elders Lodge Meals on Wheels & Home Care Services, the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre & the pharmacy.

Visitation will take place at the Longhouse on route 207 starting on Monday September 28^th at 1:00 p.m. The burial will take place on Wednesday September 30^th at 11:00 a.m.

As he was a first language Kanien’kéha speaker, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Iakwahwatsiratátie Language Nest in his memory.
