Obituary

It is with heavy broken hearts and profound sadness to announce the sudden passing of Mr. Matthew Kanousase Montour at his home in Kahnawake on the early morning of May 3, 2025, at the age of 52.  Predeceased by his adoring mother Beverly Johnson and father Matthew Montour, his beautiful baby nephew Jenner, his beautiful niece Kourtney, beloved cousin Carl Skye and cherished father-in-law Joseph Horn.

He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of twenty-three years Jerilyn (nee Horn), his two daughters Leah (Tharonhienhawihtha), and Tallulah (Shakohahiiostha) and his new precious baby grandson Peter.  Along with his mother-in-law Bonnie Horn, brother-in-law Ky (Christine), brother-in-law Carl, and sister-in-law Valerie (Émilie).

Also mourning his devastating loss are his doting siblings, Daniel, David, Mark (Cissy) and Missy, close cousins Kathy, Lisa, Jodie and Carla Skye.  Always remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially his long-time dear friends Kyle “Sugar” Jacobs and Clayton Diabo.

The family wishes to thank the Kahnawake Peacekeepers, the Paramedics at the Kahnawake Fire Brigade and the medical team at the Montreal General Hospital.

He was entrusted to Poissant and Deer.

Family will start receiving visitors at his home on Saturday May 10, 2025 at 12 pm until Sunday May 11, 2025 at 12pm follow by the tribute at the Kahnawake Protestant Cemetery.
