Bernice
MONTOUR
Bernice Montour (born Diabo) of Kahnawake, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years.
She is predeceased by her husband Roy Montour, her parents, Mike Diabo and Charlotte Rivers, her four siblings, Richard, Eileen, Lesley & Randy and her cherished grandson, Lee Doxtator.
She leaves to mourn, her children, Laurie, Vicki, Burt (Sophie), Curtis (Veronica) and Noreen (Timmy), her 7 grandchildren including, Wade and Keysa.
Bernice was a traditionnal dancer in the Golden Age category, who entered into the powwow circle at the ripe old age of 70 years. She enjoyed dancing and was loved by all of her powwow family. Bernice was a champion dancer, who won many accolades, most notably, first place at the Gathering of Nations powwow in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2008. She attented as many powwows as she could, as Bernice’s other passion was to travel. She traveled quite extensively, often taking trips with her daughters. She was always game to go anywhere, at any time, and to do anything, especially casinos. Her family will miss her as she was the one who held us all together.
The family would like to thank the staff at Home & Community Care Service, the staff at the LaSalle General Hospital, and the Kahnawake Fire Brigade who handled her with the utmost care. Special niawenhkÓ :wa for Gary Parker who sang Ma a travelling song in her final moments.
Bernice will be resting at Poissant & Deer funeral home in Kahnawake, Quebec on Friday March 8th 2024 from 10 am for visitation followed by a traditional service at the parlor on Saturday March 9th at 2pm.
